A place to explore games in depth...
Twenty-seven miles southwest of Washington, D.C., near Bull Run Creek and Manassas Junction, the first major battle of the Civil War was fought. It would not be the last battle of that war to be fought in the area. The following year would see the Confederates sweep the Union forces from the field, while the Union scrambled to send reinforcements north from Virginia to protect the capital.
While events would take a different course in 1863, until Lee committed himself further west there was the possibility that his Confederate offensive would feint toward Washington on the more direct route north. Since the Union army had to cover a direct threat on Washington, such a move would have almost inevitably led to a Third Battle of Bull Run.
Nominated for the Charles Roberts Award for the Best Pre-Twentieth Century Wargame, Three Battles of Manassas explores the two historical battles in this area and allows the players to discover what might have happened in 1863. This game will explore that third possibility. The game's designer will also be playing this game. This game will meet generally weekly or bi-weekly on a schedule to be decided upon at the first meeting, which is currently on the schedule. For further details contact Thomas Prowell.
