A place to explore games in depth...
For four years Britain and her Commonwealth have stared across the Channel at a hostile continent. Recognizing the limits of their power against the much larger German Wehrmacht, they have struggled on where they could: in the skies over Britain, in the great campaign for the seas and oceans, in North Africa, Greece, the Levant, Sicily, and Italy, while they have waited for the turn of the tide. They have suffered humiliating defeats but have gradually gained a measure of their foe. Increasingly secure in their power at sea and in the skies they have waited for the entry of powerful allies, Soviet Russia and America, to give them the opportunity to move back into the heart of Hitler's Europe. June 6, 1944 marks that beginning of that final reckoning: one that the Germans have done as much as they can to prepare for.
The Greatest Day: Gold, Juno, and Sword Beaches covers the Commonwealth sector of the invasion of Normandy including the airborne landing on the eastern flank by the British 6th Airborne Division. Using the popular Grand Tactical Series many of the players have sharpened their skills on the previous club campaign: To the Devil's Cauldron. This game will be a team game to be played across the months ahead. Team mates will cover for the inevitable absence of other players. While the board is large the essentials of the mechanics are easy to grasp and are elegantly presented.
